Sentosa Staycation (III) – Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort, Day 2 (23 Dec 2016)

Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort, Day 2 (23 Dec 2016)

After breakfast this morning, we decided to spend our time enjoying the resort.  We headed out to the beach.  Siloso Beach is just next to the pool of Rasa Sentosa.  This is not a private beach.  But it is at the end of the stretch of Siloso Beach away from the activities and restaurants and beach bars. So it was still quite quite when we were there.  Those interested could use the hotel’s kayaks and paddle boats.

The beach was beautiful.  Sometimes I forget that my own country has its own charm and beauty too and we don’t necessarily need to leave the country to enjoy a beach vacation.

We fool around on the beach and took dips in the sea as the kids were not interested in kayaking or paddle boating.  The beach was great.  It was shallow with a very gradual slope as it deepens, and yet still deep enough to swim.  No sudden drops.  Very safe and calm water as there are several islets across the beach.

Then we proceed back to the pool.  There is also a huge free form pool with one section cordoned off as a quiet area for adults, During the morning that we were there, resort staff was organizing water games in the free form pool for guests. It was fun and lively. Another good thing about the pool is that there are lots of pool loungers and so it was not difficult to get one. There is also a pool bar where one can grab a drink or snack.

There was also a kids pool with a water play area and slides.  Something for everyone.

Around lunch time, we headed back to our room to shower and pack up.  Then we headed to the restaurants to get lunch.  We decided to have a simple lunch at 8 Noodle.  The restaurants at Rasa Sentosa are all at level 3.  There is a main buffet restaurant next to it is the noodle place, 8 Noodle.  The restaurant has a traditional old Singapore coffee shop look.  It has some peranakan pictures on the wall and an old gramophone at the corner, evoking a nostalgic feel.

8 Noodle serves mainly simple one dish meals like noodles and fried rice.  Among the 5 of us, we had the crab fried rice, seafood hor fun, Ipoh noodles and ramen.

The crab seafood was good with big chunks of crab meat.  Seafood Hor Fun had good quality fresh seafood including fresh scallops, squid, fish and prawns.  The Ipoh Noodles seems a little bland with just shreds of chicken.  Ramen was nothing too special too.

After lunch, we checked out and dropped our bags in the car, then walked to the coconut ice cream place outside for our dessert.  Yes, it was so good, we need to come again before we leave.

It was overall a fun 2 days action-packed staycation, albeit expensive.  But these activities are not your run of the mill type and so I suppose it is ok to splurge once in a while.  And the resort, Rasa Sentosa is a wonderful beach resort that we enjoyed.
