Eating in Hong Kong – Roast Goose @ Yung Kee Restaurant, Central

Roast Goose @ Yung Kee Restaurant, Central

One of my regular go to restaurants in Hong Kong is Yung Kee. Yung Kee is a well known restaurant in HK serving roast goose along Wellington Street in Central. If you wish to eat at Yung Kee, I’d suggest making a reservation as the restaurant is always full. And this can be easily done online.

I arranged to meet my friend here for dinner at 7pm. As usual the restaurant was full. Our table was at level 2.

We started the meal with a serving of half a century egg with preserves ginger as a starter. This dish is for me only as my friend does not take century eggs. It is definitely an acquired taste. The century egg at Yung Kee has a soft yolk and goes very well with their preserved ginger.

Next came our order of seasonal vegetables with mushroom. This is quite ordinary. It is a basic vegetable dish that can never go wrong.

Then came the star of the evening, our small portion of the roast goose. We had asked for the drumstick and needed to top up HKD60 for this section of the goose. The waitress pored the sauce on the hose at our table. This ensure the skin of the goose does not get soaked and become soft before we eat it. I find the sauce too salty as I had been cutting down on my salt intake or late. I must remember to get them to cut down on the sauce in future. I love this dish. It is yummy and you can’t get roast goose in Singapore. This is a dish that goes well with white rice.

Lastly, came our order of Yung Kee’s sausages. Yes, we had a very sinful and high in cholesterol meal! . But what the heck! I am in HK! This is another dish that needs to be eaten with rice. My friend and I shared a bowl of white rice as we were both cutting down on carbo. The sausages were very fragrant.

We couldn’t finish our food even though we only ordered 3 dishes. Probably because we were busy catching up.

Despite it being such a simple meal, it did not come cheap. Our bill came up to HKD831.60.

I can never leave Yung Kee empty handed. I bought 2 boxes of 6 century eggs, 2 bottles of preserved ginger and a packet of goose liver sausages to take home. These takeaway cost HKD588.

This will not be the last time I eat here
