Eating in Singapore -Lunch @ Szechuan Court

Lunch @ Szechuan Court, Fairmont Singapore

I caught up with 2 friends for lunch before the end of the year.  It was on 30 Dec and we tried to book one of the festive buffets at one of the hotels but many were fully booked.  So we decided to have Chinese food at Szechuan Court, the Chinese restaurant at Fairmont Singapore that serve a spicy south western Chinese cuisine.  The restaurant has a modern Chinese deco and had full length windows looking out into the city.

They had set menus but we decided to have some ala carte dim sum and noodles.  I like the dim sum at Szechuan cCourt as they are not the usual Cantonese Dimsum but comes with some variety and Szechuan spicy twist.  Furthermore, most Dimsum co,es in plate of 3.  So when there are 3 persons, it is ideal to have Dimsum.

Our first plate of Dimsum is the common Cha siew So, or BBQ Pork pastry.  The pastry was light and flaking and the BBQ honey pork filling was juicy and flavorful.

Next is the steamed spinach crystal dumpling.  Most restaurants make this dumpling with chives.  So this is pretty unique to Szechuan Court.  The dumpling skin is thin and soft as it should be.  The filling with spinach was different, and a nice change.

Next dish is a speciality here.  It is a spicy Szechuan dumpling.  The dumplings are the usual pork dumplings, but they are in a gravy made with vinegar, chopped ginger, spring onions and chilli.  The spicy gravy gives this dish a nice kick and it is a must try her.  We like it so much that we had a second order.

We also ordered the deep fried dory fish fillet sprinkled with salt and pepper.  A simple fish fillet dish well flavored by the salt and peppe.  I like it.

For the main, we ordered the fish noodles in black pepper sauce.  Instead of noodles made with flour, the noodles in this fish and made with fish and flour.  It is different and very flavourful.  A specialty and popular dish here.  Fish noodles cannot be bought off the shelves and are usually made by the chef themselves.  Well worth a try if you can take spicy food.  The black pepper sauce is pretty potent and even I who like spicy food Fine’s this dish pretty spicy.

For dessert, we ordered a red bean pancake to share and two of us decided to have a watercress aloe vera cold sweet soup.  The pancake arrived hot and crisp with a generous red bean filling.  The cold watercress aloe Vera dessert was very refreshing.  This is a unique dessert in this restaurant.  First time I see watercress being made into a dessert soup.  It is very good, I must say.

Original bill came up to $147.  But as I had the Feed at Raffles card, we had a 33% discount on food and we paid only $99.
